Max's BBS Professional v2 Screenshots & Release Information
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Max's Pro v2 (Also written as /X\2) is an advanced expander system for
Max's v1.54... It uses the original Max's for mainly house keeping
functions, while replacing most of the original code/routines with constantly
updated professional code.
/X\2 does not simply patch one or 2 parts of Max's! At the last count, its
replaced over 500 of the original routines!!!
Several of the more important aspects of Max's are now changed beyond
belief! The new file-base system is probably the most advanced of any Amiga
based BBS system (Even better than Zeus & Xenolink) and the messaging system
has been updated to cope with colour messages even across fidonet systems.
Speed is also an important issue. /X\2 uses as little as 4% CPU time while
a user is online, dropping to 0.64% while idle & that's on a slow 030 Amiga!
Tests have shown that you can easily run a 6 node BBS system on even a humble
Amiga setup! No need for 040's unlike most commercial systems!
Full Feature List
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following is a list of improvements over Max's BBS v1.54.
True Os2.04/os3.x screens & windows (interleaved under os3.x)
All screens are named public ones. Format: MAXsBBS? where ? is the node
number!
New look gadgets - Custom designer look.
File type detector, handles 14 file formats automatically.
Including Lha, Lzx, Zip, Jpeg, Iff, Zip, Gif & Several PC & Mac archiver
formats. If a filetype isn't automatically handled, you can add custom
types with ease! Already available is a HTML type checker!
Script based COLOUR File_id/.readme/$Ver: file detection (Real-time STDIO)
Links in with the file type detecter, Amiga executable files can be hunk
checked & virus checked easily. Internal/external aminet .readme's are
handled automatically. Preference is given to File_Id's.
Banner adding/stripping, virus checking & credit docking :)
Adding your own BBS Adverts to a file is as easy as un-commenting a line
from the example scripts supplied! Bad files or non-acceptable files can
be auto-matically removed & upload credits removed without sysop intevention!
Configurable file_id editor with Logo support
File_ID editor handles standard 45x13 sized ID's, this size can be changed
via the supplied config ed. Each user can have their own default logo
for use with entering file descriptions.
Free Download support
Making a file a free download is simple! Just click `Free' in the file
editor!
New file lister (Enhanced version of Spin Diz)
Fully configurable! Change any colour, custom text lines to alter sent-by
lines, optional configurable seperator bar etc.
New 250 line message editor! :)
Messages can now be up to 250 lines long. Previous limit was 100.
New MAX's commands!
/X\2 supports up to 50 menu commands. The 2 new ones supplied with /X\2
are:-
Run Door List - Run any list of doors, similiar to the maindoor.text files.
Run XIM - Run a XIM door designed for AmiExpress BBS systems. All game doors
tested so far have worked without problems!
Altered Paragon protocol. Doors won't lock up on 2+ local logins!
Before/After mail import scripts for Freq servers, traptoss etc etc.
These allow you to do anything with imported/exported mail packets.
eg.. Process exported mail packets before being sent via Email etc.
Screen colour locking on os3.x - Stops hisoft basic doors screwing things up!
Advanced door port structure
Custom /X\2 doors are already available. Including doors that commercial
BBS Sysops would be proud of owning!
New auto-inserts! Including a %"SCRIPT" one, anything the script returns
is displayed for the insert! Unlimited inserts now!
New auto-inserts can run dos based programs, log user actions & provide
a limited HyperText system with ease!
Trapdoor/GMS/Telnet Spawnable (Extra command line options)
Command line options allow you to preset a device name, unit number, connect
speed & sawn mode easily. You can also boot many nodes on the same config
with these options!
Plug-in support.. External progs can become part of max's!
Plug-ins are already becoming available! Like the new PaPa plugin, a small
programming language for minor updates & configuring the look & feel of /X\2.
The screen chots show the phone number in the status bar instead of a user
comment. This is just a tiny part of what PaPa is capable of!
Conference mail support
Files and mail can now share sections! Giving you up to 199 sections to
play with now!
Supports 57.6K & Faster connections.
/X\2 is the only Max's related BBS system to support 57.6K & ISDN speed
connections without messing up!
Font sensitive iconify bar!
The iconify bar now adapts itself to the workbench screen font. Also it
gives in english (Configurable) exactly what a user is doing! If the user
is inside a door, then it also gives the door name!
Clock can now be disabled!
If you hated the Max's clock, you can now kill it easily!
Amiga CSI Ansi support
/X\2 now supports both IBM & Amiga Ansi standards. Amiga CSI ANSI files are
much smaller than IBM displays, meaning quicker updates for callers.
Colour Message support
Local & Echo messages can now contain CSI ansi codes for colour messages!
Even animated logos are now possable!
16 Colour ANSI
/X\2 finally supports the full 16 colour ansi standard! This is
automatically enabled when you select a screen depth >16 colours in the
configuration editor.
Turbo Logins
No need for a login macro on F10 anymore! Just wack return to be logged
in as the sysop! Also password entry is no-longer required on local logins!
CallerID logins are support, but you will require an external program
to recognise the CallerID signals for your country.
Screen Shot Information
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All but 1 of these screen shots were taken while in a local login, around
various parts of my BBS. All are 640x256x16 in size.
In no particular order:-
Mpro_ColourMsg.IFF
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This shot demonstrates a colour message in operation. Colour messages do
have their limitations when designing sig files, but the results are worth it!
Mpro_FidoDist.IFF
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The fidonet distribution screen has now been re-worded to make things more
understandable to beginners.
Mpro_UserEd.IFF
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A screen grab from the /X\2 user editor... No new features, but it looks
a LOT better than before :)
Mpro_WHO_Online.Iff
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A grab from one of the many new doors available for /X\2. Shows who's online
and what they're doing. Configurable.
Mpro_ColourID.Iff
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A screen grab from the /X\2 file lister demonstrating colour File_ID's in
action. All parts of the display are configurable!
Mpro_FileList.IFF
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another grab of the file lister in action.
Mpro_DizEd.Iff
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The file description system in use. Fully configurable against a custom
ansi background :)
Mpro_FileExt.Iff
Mpro_FileExt2.Iff
Mpro_FileExtract.Iff
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These 3 grabs were taken whilst /X\2 was processing an upload. In this case
it was a system library.
The scripts are normal amiga DOS scripts & can be configured to do anything
you want to a file, from nothing to full integrity & virus checking or
whatever else you can think of!
Mpro_Virus.IFF
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A small example of the flexibility of /X\2's file lister... If you find
a file that has been infected with a virus, naturally you want to warn all
users about it! Small comments can be easily missed. This can't!!!
Custom ansi banners can replace file_id's easily within file scripts.
Mpro_XIM.Iff
~~~~~~~~~~~~
On of /X\2's more exotic features is the ability to run doors designed for
AmiExpress BBS systems... The standard of emulation is quite high & actually
runs /X doors FASTER than AmiExpress!!!
This grab was taken from a remote login a while back as I now use my NSA
Wall door instead :)
Redrum_Idle.Iff
Redrum_Menu.Iff
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since many of you will never get a chance to call my BBS (Especially if you
don't live in the UK), here's a couple of screen grabs to show what you're
missing!
